Phony notice of lien

I just received a certified letter headed NOTICE OF RIGHT TO A LIEN from Lakeside Industries of Issaquah, WA for materials supposedly ordered by William Stanley and Sons Paving for my driveway. I DID NOT ORDER ANY SUCH WORK; THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SCAM THAT I AM GOING TO REPORT TO THE STATE OF OREGON CONSUMER AFFAIRS DIVISION. I do not know why anyone would go to such expense to send a certified notice to an innocent homeowner. If you receive such a notice, call Wm Stanley at 503-661-**** in Gresham, OR to complain. I have not tried it yet, so it may or may not be a valid number.

If you had your driveway paved by William Stanley & Sons you may, indeed be subject to a "mechanics lien." What happens is that the Stanley company bought materials from Lakeside Industries and didn't pay them. Since the materials were used on your driveway, Lakeside can file a lien against your property for the value of the supplied materials.

This happens all the time when companies do the work for you with materials purchased from some other company and then fails to pay them. The supplier company has the right to file a lien against the property owner where the work was done. Get a free consult from an attorney or, better yet call Lakeside and find out what the situation is.

It would appear Stanley & Sons gave Lakeside your address as where the work would be done. Good luck.

I am a representative of William Stanley & Sons Paving, LLC. I am just seeing this review now.

The person who replied to the complaint is partly right. The notice the homeowner received was a notice of a right to lien. Letting the property owner know that IF we don’t pay our bill then Lakeside would have the right to lien the consumers property. The notice the consumer received was NOT a notice of a lien.

Customers get this confused often. I do not see a follow up to this complaint so I am assuming this is what the consumer found out when he called Lakeside Industries. To insuinuate we did not pay our bill at Lakeside would be false. We pay our bills in a timely manner.

I hope this clears up any confusion. Thank you

William Stanley and Sons BEWARE

They were paving a driveway next to my home and gave me a bid for a large sum of money ($2500) for a very small area. The work they did next to me was a horrible experience. The crew parked their trucks in front of my home, three to be exact, blocked the street for hours, put their roller on my front lawn in front of my house, shoveled asphalt in the street leaving a mess for me to clean up, left water bottles and cigarette butts all over the place, they crew had no respect for my home or for the delivering of mail to my house. I would never hire them and I called to complain this morning and they were not available. They use a answering service and I have not heard back from them. I doubt if they have an office at all. Sounds pretty fishy to me and I am going to complain to the contractors board. I doubt if they are licensed.

Paving scam

The man came to my door with"extra" asphalt and would not give me a price until the job was done. Once I agree the asphalt truck and 8 guys came to take care of my driveway. When it was over he wanted an exhorbitant amount of money for capping my driveway with probably recycled asphalt. It is already starting to rip up and I am sure it will not last. THIS BUSINESS NEEDS TO BE STOPPED. Just do a google search on William Stanley and you will find he was thrown out of OR and other family members have been thrown out of NH but he keeps swindling people out of millions! I doubt he is even licensed!!!

William Stanley & Sons, Bad customer service

On Saturday 1/22/11 the company truck came up our driveway. (we had never called them) We were told that they were doing a job in Corbett and they were going to have a lot of extra asphalt and would we like the bottom of our driveway fixed. ( we had a lot of pot holes) The man told us that it would be supper cheep, great deal! The price stated was 350.00 or so or like 2.00 qf. They were going to let us think about and left. They came back and we told them that that should be fine. We were told they would be back in an hour or so. They came back didn't tell us they were here, did the job and gave us a bill for 3500.00! NOT ANYWHERE CLOSE TO OUR QUOTE! After the fact I emailed to talk with them about it. NO RESPONSE. I was just wanting to talk about how things happened not even asking for any money back. They have refused to talk with us.
